About

"The Fulni-o philosophy is simple; always do things for the betterment of humankind, the environment, and all living things."

The Fulni-o Tribe is over 500 years old and is a blending of the Carnijo and Tapuia tribes. It is the only tribe in the North East of Brazil in the State of Pernambuco that has maintained its own language (called Yathe) and its own culture. It is because of this religion, the Fulni-o say, that they are able to maintain their culture. Their religion is kept alive through a three-month ceremony called Ouricuri. This ceremony is strictly for full-blooded Fulni-o Indians and is so sacred that the Fulni-o do not discuss it, even amongst themselves. Little is known about their religion because, thankfully, it has not been infiltrated by outsiders.

The Fulni-o has an extraordinary knowledge of plant and animal relationships, including healing benefits. In fact, other tribes have called them to heal their sick. Often the other tribes with the Fulni-o would stay with them to help maintain their health. The Fulni-o philosophy is simple; always do things for the betterment of humankind, the environment, and all living things. Their essence exemplifies what living for a higher purpose really means. Their songs, dance and art reflect unity of body and spirit. The spiritual philosophy of the Fulni-o is critical for their survival as well as our own.
